Liposuction:

Liposuction is rightly called ‘the battle of the bulge’. Every third person today is troubled by this five-word phrase. Television, newspapers and magazines all the time thrust this information in your face. There are certain people who you can’t blame for the bulge, certain people have fat cell that don’t sink easily despite diet and exercise. Obesity has heredity to blame for this.

Liposuction helps remove small bulges that won’t budge and also helps to restore body shape. The areas most commonly treated include the hips, abdomen, thighs and buttocks and face. Liposuction does not remove cellulite, only fat.

A good candidate for liposuction should ideally have realistic expectations about the results of this procedure. Good overall health is a must, concentrated pockets of fat do not respond well to diet and exercise.

Age is generally not a major consideration when discussing liposuction; however, older patients often have less elasticity in their skin and thus may not achieve the same benefits of liposuction that a younger patient with tighter skin might achieve.

Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise. It is not an effective treatment for cellulite. Liposuction can however permanently reshape body contours where excess fat deposits create areas that are disproportionately large in an otherwise balanced figure.
